The Premier League season is just one week away, and Manchester United is making significant moves in the transfer market ahead of the September 1st deadline. The club is reportedly on the verge of completing a major signing, while the futures of several key players hang in the balance. This period also marks a significant infrastructural development with the opening of a new training centre.
Benjamin Sesko Set for Old Trafford Unveiling
Manchester United is very close to finalising the transfer of Benjamin Sesko. A medical examination has already taken place, and if all goes well, Sesko is expected to be presented to Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford tomorrow, coinciding with a match against Fiorentina. The deal with RB Leipzig is reportedly worth an initial £66.3 million, with an additional £7.37 million in performance-related add-ons. Sesko has made it clear that Manchester United was his sole desired destination, a stance that has impressed the club. His arrival is a major step for United, bringing in a "very very good player".
The club is undergoing a "reset" period, especially after a poor league position last season, despite being very close to winning the Europa League. United aims for a new look and has spent significant money, indicating their ambition. This comes as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is opening the doors to a new Carrington training centre, acknowledging that the previous facilities were "not up to scratch". The team is shaping up to have a formidable front three, with Matias Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already in place alongside the incoming Sesko.
Hojlund's Future Under Scrutiny, Garnacho Eyed by Chelsea
Sesko's imminent arrival casts further doubt on the future of Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United. His game time is expected to be impacted significantly. Although RB Leipzig reportedly wanted to bring Hojlund in on loan, he has publicly expressed his determination to fight for his place in the Manchester United first team. However, it is now believed that Manchester United would consider bids of around £40 million for Hojlund. Interestingly, Hojlund was not among the five players (Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony, and Alejandro Garnacho) that United had previously indicated they were willing to listen to offers for during this transfer window.
Meanwhile, there have been developments regarding Alejandro Garnacho, with Chelsea showing interest in the player all summer. Manchester United is reportedly seeking £50 million to sell Garnacho this summer. The club values him at this amount by comparing it to fees paid for other players, such as Anthony Elanga's move to Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, and Noni Madueke, who, as per the source, left Chelsea for Arsenal.
Sancho and Anthony's Potential Exits
Manchester United also needs to make sales before the transfer window closes. Jadon Sancho is one of the big names who could potentially bring in funds. Borussia Dortmund reportedly remains in talks with Sancho's representatives over a deal, and dialogue with United remains open. While no agreement has been reached yet, it is thought that Sancho could be available for significantly less than the £25 million obligation price that Chelsea had when they signed him on loan last season.
Regarding Anthony, there is significant interest from various clubs. However, the player reportedly has only one destination in mind: Real Betis. This preference stems from what he considers a "fantastic loan spell" with the Spanish club last season. As United finalises Sesko's arrival, these potential departures remain crucial for the club's financial balance and squad restructuring ahead of the new season.
